the light of life
acrylic/mixed media on canvas
This painting measures 80x80cm x 3cm in depth. It is a highly textured painting and as such appears very tactile.
The colours used are teal and cobalt turqouise plus light copper for the sun and wave reflections.
The sun was created using light copper paint and copper leaf. The sun is very reflective and really does shine.
The title of the painting I struggled with. I initially wanted to include the names of some of the ancient sun gods: Ra, Helios, Sol etc combined with the more modern view of the sun only being responsible for sun tans and vitamin D. Lightbringer was another, and the Morning Star, until I discovered that the Morning Star is actually Venus. The painting is intended to be a sun rise as opposed to a sunset.
It's just the sun rising, it's shining...after the song The Sun Rising by the Beloved was another. In the end I chose The Light of Life....without it, life would not exist.
